Fore River Shipyard

The largest development opportunity in Quincy today is the 113-acre site of the Fore River Shipyard. Strategically located just six miles south of Boston, the site is ideal for a wide range of potential uses.

It is one of the last remaining large marine-related sites in the state.

Now owned by Daniel Quirk, the site of the former Quincy Shipyard offers frontage on a functioning ship channel, extensive deep-water berth space, large lay-down and back-up areas, excellent rail, road and air transportation, fully operational railroad with connections, and a variety of existing building types.

The internationally recognized urban planning firm, RTKL Associates has produced a master plan for the redevelopment of the site. Emphasis will be placed on smart growth and transit-oriented development, including reserving portions of the site for marine-related uses. Within the Shipyard property is Fore River Transportation (FRT), a Class II common carrier shortline railroad, providing freight and rail services between Quincy and Braintree. FRT interchanges with CONRAIL (CSXT) in Braintree, thereby providing rail service connections to the entire North American continent. Within the immediate area, FRT provides rail trackage service to the MWRA Pelletizing Plant, Twin Rivers Technologies, a large manufacturing complex that refines products used in the manufacture of soap and similar goods, and the Quincy Shipyard itself.

Quincy City Officials Welcome Blue Fin Robotics to QuincyThe Quincy Shipyard has recently experienced an expansion of marine related industries, such as the relocation of Blue Fin Robotics and the opening of a research and treatment facility for the New England Aquarium.

In addition to the site amenities, a skilled workforce and ready access to national and world markets make it a prime opportunity for successful development.
