FAQ: Quincy Center Concourse
- What are the boundaries of Phase II? Phase II begins at the intersection of Revere Road and Dennis Ryan Parkway (end of Phase III), crosses Hancock Street and continues to the Paul Harold Bridge (Burgin Parkway). The project also entails the reconstruction of Mechanic Street and Elm Street to the intersection of Hancock Street.
- What is the purpose of the new roadway and why is it important? The completion of this new East/West transportation corridor through the heart of Quincy Center is designed to alleviate travel congestion on existing roadways throughout the downtown by providing a direct link to Route 3 and 93. The new Concourse also provides more direct access to the downtown, unlocking the value and interest of development opportunities within the commercial district.
- How is the project being financed? The $8.2 million project is federally funded under the American Recovery Reinvestment Act (ARRA), and is managed by the state Department of Transportation (Mass DOT).
- How long is the duration of the project? The project is scheduled to take two years to complete, ending in June 2012
- What are the hours of construction? Normal Construction periods will run from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday thru Friday. Evening and extended construction periods may take place to minimize utility work disruptions and/or to ensure the proper completion of a specific aspect of the project.

- Will any roadways be closed during construction? Portions of Revere Road from Hancock to Mechanic Street will be closed during the construction period. Travel may be restricted to one lane on Hancock Street, which will be monitored by Quincy police. Hancock Street will maintain two travel lanes before 8:00 AM and after 3:00 PM to minimize disruption during peak commuting periods.
- Will deliveries by vendors to local businesses be disrupted? Delivery schedules may need to be altered as contruction impacts the various roadways in the vicinity. If a business has specific delivery requirements/needs they should contact the construction field office at (617) 328-4500, which is located in the Hancock Park lot near Revere Road.
- What is the plan for the Ross Garage? The Ross Garage will not be impacted by this project.
- Where will new traffic signals be installed? New traffic signals with turning lanes will be installed at the intersection of Hancock Street /Revere Road and Miller Stile/Revere Road. A yellow pedestrian signal will be installed at the intersection of Mechanic Street and Revere Road.
- What disruptions will there be to sidewalks, walkways, driveways, and the like during construction and who is responsible for any damage to private property? It is inevitable that there will be disruptions, however the contractor is responsible to provide proper notice when these disruptions are to occur to minimize any inconveniences that will be caused from this work. The contractor is responsible to remediate any damage to private property caused by the project.
- What is the schedule and nature of the utility relocation element of the project? Underground utilities such as electrical and gas will be relocated, which may require a disruption of service to area businesses. 48 hour notification will be given to impacted property owners, and the majority of the work will be confined to the evening hours to minimize the disruption.
- What are the impacts on Town Brook and what is being done to protect it from dust & debris? The contractor is required to follow strict conservation guidelines when working near the Town Brook. No construction will be allowed to take place near Town Brook From March to May, during the smelt spawning season.
- Has the City made arrangements for dust/rodent control? The project is required to adhere to all local/state guidelines associated with dust and rodent control as outlined in the Demolition Contract.
