August 20, 2010 (QUINCY, MA) – Team “Five Alive!” from Marina Bay Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation took top honors in the recent Healthy Workplace Challenge. Coming in right on their heels was Team “Grouchy Girls” from the South Shore YMCA, who claimed the second place title.

There were 42 teams comprised of 204 employees who laced up their sneakers for the challenge which was a six-week fitness and wellness program that focused on developing a healthy lifestyle in the workplace. The Challenge began on June 21, 2010 and commenced on July 30, 2010 and was sponsored by the Quincy Health, Beauty & Wellness League (HBW League), a subcommittee of the Quincy Chamber of Commerce.

Each team was assigned a personal trainer from the Fitness Factor, South Shore YMCA or SuperFitness that coached participants during the six-week program. In addition to the fitness component, participants also received blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol screenings from Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates, Manet Community Health Center and Quincy Medical Center.

“The focus was not solely on weight loss. It was about increasing one’s overall health and well-being,” said Donna Mavromates, Director of Marketing for the Quincy Chamber of Commerce. “While we declared two teams the ‘winners’, in actuality every team won because its members made positive lifestyle changes during the program that they may not have done otherwise.”

Participants checked in with their coaches at regular intervals and earned points for attaining certain criteria throughout the six-week program.

Prizes for the first place team included a month of personal training from Evolution Lifestyles/SuperFitness, an overnight stay at the Boston Marriott Quincy, a pair of sunglasses provided by Nielsen Eye Center and a restaurant gift certificate courtesy of the Quincy Restaurant League. Second place team members each received a gift certificate for either a facial or massage, courtesy of the Spa at Boncaldo’s.

A celebration event was hosted by the South Shore YMCA and was sponsored by MFS, Keohane Funeral Home, Ten Faxon, and BJ’s Wholesale Club.
